FAQ

What Kind of Problems Do You Treat?

Most conditions that can be treated by mainstream veterinary medicine can be treated with naturopathic medicine. For example, acute conditions such as viruses and infections (ear, urinary tract, skin, etc) through to more chronic or recurrent conditions such as allergies in your dog, itching skin, hot spots on dogs, digestive system problems, inflammatory skin conditions, anxiety disorders, depression, arthritis in dogs, hormonal imbalances, thyroid disorders and other long-term health problems in dogs can usually be treated safely and effectively with well-prescribed naturopathic treatments. In addition, we try to promote wellness and illness prevention by developing individual programs for your dog to try to prevent the onset of symptoms and disease.

Please note: If your pet is suffering from a serious, life-threatening condition such as a snake bite, heart attack, intestinal bloat, burns, or any other emergency condition – seek veterinary attention urgently.

How Can An Online Assessment Benefit My Dog?

Having your pet’s individual health assessed by a well-qualified animal naturopath with over 20 years of knowledge in animal health, rather than just self-prescribing remedies for your dog after reading generic information from the internet or books, will help ensure your dog will be provided with safe, effective and up to date naturopathic treatment advice. In addition, after your dog’s health has been assessed, you will be able to order some of the highest quality herbal medicines, nutrient supplements or homeopathic medicines available rather than only being able to access natural products from retail outlets that may have little or no effect.

Naturopathic health care for your dog aims to help them achieve optimum health, high vitality and longevity. Our naturopathic formulas and supplements can often treat problems that have not responded to any other treatment methods. In addition, unlike most drug therapies, our treatments do not usually have side effects or the long-term effects of certain veterinary medicines and can therefore improve the quality of life for your dog. Naturopathic animal health care encourages optimum health and the prevention of disease through correct nutrition, herbal and/or homeopathic medicines, individually prescribed nutrient therapy and other natural methods to help ensure your dog’s health is in balance. Naturopathic animal health care considers the animal as a whole and seeks to achieve and maintain the dog’s true health – not just suppress their symptoms. Animals are often unable to derive adequate nutrients from food alone due to malabsorption problems, allergies, anxiety, increasing age, inadequate nutrient intake, pharmaceutical drug treatments, infection, pregnancy and other circumstances. Naturopathic animal health care may be able to provide the solutions to your dogs health problems and promote vitality and longevity in your much-loved pet. Therefore, if you want the safest, most effective, professionally prescribed naturopathic treatment plan designed specifically for your dog or you want to access superior quality naturopathic formulas for your dog, organize a Complete Consultation for your pet today.

PRACTITIONER QUALIFICATIONS

It is our belief that only practitioners that have studied both naturopathic and herbal medicine for dogs comprehensively as well as studied the animal sciences such as animal physiology, canine nutritional science, pharmacology and pathology should be prescribing herbal medicines, nutrient supplements or other naturopathic treatments for dogs. This allows the knowledge required regarding potentially toxic substances for dogs and possible interactions, contra-indications and other essential information that is necessary for the safe and effective treatment of dog’s health problems with natural medicines.

We Offer a Range of Naturopathic Health Care Services Ranging From the Treatment of Specific Symptoms and Health Problems Through to Wellness Programs to help Achieve Optimum Health & Longevity for Your Pets. We Can Help You Find Solutions to Your Pet’s Health Problems That No One Else Seemed Able to Treat Successfully. If You Are Seeking Clinically-Proven, Safe And Effective Ways To Help Treat Your Pet – Organize An Online Assessment For Your Dog Today.

How Do I Arrange An Online Assessment?

To organize an online assessment for your pet you will need to choose whether your dog requires a brief or a comprehensive health assessment. If you only have one question to ask Sara about your dog or your dog just has a minor problem, then a ‘Short Online Consultation’ should be adequate. However, if your dog is suffering from a skin condition, a digestive disorder, a yeast infection, recurrent ear infections or other health problems, then you will need to complete our more comprehensive ‘Complete Canine Consultation’.

Once you have decided which consultation you require for your dog, you will need to complete the relevant questionnaire (e.g. ‘Short Consultation’ or ‘Complete Consultation’) and click on the Submit button at the bottom of the questionnaire. This will then take you to a secure payment facility where you can pay for your dog’s assessment.

The following charges will apply:
A Short Online Consultation is $38.00 (Aus)
A ‘Complete Online Consultation’ is $98.00 (Aus).

To see how much this is in your currency if you live outside Australia, go to: http://www.gocurrency.com

Once you have completed your questionnaire and paid for your pet’s consultation, Sara will then assess your pet’s case and will respond to your question or provide recommendations (for the Short consultation) or she will develop an individual treatment program for your dog in the Complete Consultation. The information will then be provided to you by email.

Please note:
Medicines & supplements are available at an extra cost. They can be ordered by phone or email and delivered to your door. Answers to your question or a recommended treatment program will be provided to you by email, once payment has been received. Payments for consultations are not refundable.

What Does An Online Assessment For My Dog Involve?

This service allows you to access professional naturopathic advice for your pet from the comfort of your home.

Online assessments allow you to complete a questionnaire about your dog’s health problems so that our well-qualified and experienced Canine Naturopath, Sara Rooney, can help you improve their health.

Once you have completed your questionnaire and organized payment for your pets assessment, Sara will then spend time assessing your dog’s case and will develop an appropriate treatment plan that will be designed to help their body to begin healing. Your dogs health assessment is usually completed within 5 working days of receiving it, but it may be much sooner, depending on our bookings.

This method of assessment and treatment has been shown to be a very effective way of resolving health problems in dogs – utilizing professional advice along with effective, clinically-proven naturopathic formulas. Once the assessment is completed, the recommended treatments will then be made easily accessible to you (at an extra charge).

What Charges Apply For Online Canine Assessments?

Short Online Consultation – $38.00

Includes time to assess and provide treatment advice for a minor health problem in your dog or allows you to ask a question about your dog’s health and receive an answer from a qualified Canine Naturopath.
Short consultations can also be helpful for follow-up consultations or for ongoing health care advice for your pet.

Please Note: A short consultation does not allow adequate time to assess your dog’s health thoroughly or consider your dog’s health background but it is an affordable option if you only require advice for one minor health problem. If your dog is suffering from a skin problem, digestive complaint, recurrent or chronic infection or other significant health disorder, please refer to our ‘Complete Online Consultation’ below.

Complete Canine Consultation – $98.00

This includes a comprehensive health assessment that covers your dog’s past and current health background. This consultation aims to provide you with appropriate treatment recommendations to help resolve your dog’s health problems. Alternatively, if your dog is healthy and you are seeking a preventative care program to maintain their health, an individual wellbeing plan will be provided. Once you have completed the questionnaire for the ‘Complete Online Consultation’ and your payment has been received, you will be sent the recommended treatment advice for your dog by email.

Will Sara suggest specific treatments for my dog after the assessment?

Yes. Sara prescribes high-quality, clinically-proven, naturopathic medicines and formulas for her canine clients that are far superior to ‘over the counter’ products and are not available from health food stores or pharmacies or other retail outlets. The advanced naturopathic treatments that Sara prescribes and formulates cannot be compared to other natural remedies available ‘off the shelf’ – that either have little effect or no effect at all. Once your dog’s health has been assessed, the formulas that Sara prescribes will be made easily available to you for ordering and can be delivered straight to your door. Sara may also provide canine dietary advice and other information if she feels it is important for the health and wellbeing of your dog. Please note: Medicines & supplements are available at an extra cost.

Once I complete the assessment, how long before I receive treatment advice?

Depending on bookings, please allow up to 5 working days for your pet’s case to be assessed and treatment advice to be provided to you. Often it is much sooner than this but sometimes Sara has a large number of cases to assess. During these busy times, it may take up to 5 working days (or more during holiday periods) for you to receive your pet’s treatment plan. If you would like to find out the current waiting period, please feel free to email us to enquire: info@animalnaturopath.com.au

Do Naturopathic treatments take longer to work compared to pharmaceutical drug therapies?

Not usually. Depending on the problem, we have seen dramatic, positive changes in animals when the treatment has been correctly prescribed. For example, dogs with itchy skin, hot spots and other inflamed skin conditions often respond rapidly and dogs that have had several courses of pharmaceutical antibiotics for chronic ear infections or other veterinary medications without any change in their symptoms also often experience quick results from well-prescribed naturopathic formulas. Arthritis in dogs, itching, infections, anxiety, canine digestive problems and many other dogs health problems, often respond rapidly to well-prescribed, high quality herbal and nutrient formulas that target the dogs own healing mechanisms. Keep in mind, the natural medicines that Sara prescribes cannot be compared to ‘over the counter’ natural products which often have little or no effect.

Further Information About Natural Remedies For Dogs

A large number of herbal and nutrient supplements are available online or off the shelf from supermarkets, health food stores or pharmacies. Many of these products can be sub-standard in quality with low levels of active ingredients and large amounts of ‘cheap fillers’. Furthermore, a large number of supplements are manufactured overseas in countries that do not follow the strict manufacturing guidelines that Australian manufacturers must follow.
In addition, we do not recommend the self-prescribing of herbal medicines for dogs as these supplements can be dangerous when incorrectly given or at the very least, may be ineffective. Many substances deemed to be safe in humans may be toxic or even fatal to other species. We only recommend the use of herbal medicines and nutrient therapies for dogs when they have been prescribed by a well-qualified animal naturopath. Superior-Quality Herbal and Nutrient Formulas for Dogs

For the safety of all dogs, the herbal formulas, nutrient therapies, homeopathic remedies and other natural treatments Sara prescribes are all high-quality, human-grade products that have been clinically proven to be safe and effective. The treatments that will be recommended for your individual dog and their unique problems will be made easily accessible to you for ordering after the completion of an online assessment.

We do not recommend other natural remedies for dogs for the following reasons:

1. ‘Animal-grade’ products are subjected to different (less strict) regulatory processes compared to ‘human-grade’ products.

2. Unlike many inferior “Off the shelf” products, the treatments that Sara prescribes or formulates do not contain the following ingredients:

  • Cheap fillers that are often used to save manufacturers money (such as talcum powder, shellac, unstable oils, etc (which are all known carcinogens)
  • Dangerous heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium, lead and aluminum that are commonly found in many companies herbal and fish oil products.
  • Alcohol in liquid herbal preparations which can be damaging to a dogs liver and general health.
  • Toxic pesticide residues as the products we recommend and/or formulate have been tested for their purity.
  • The formulas Sara prescribes or formulates have very powerful biochemical activity, high absorption rates and extremely effective ratios of nutrients and plant extracts per formula to deliver optimum therapeutic results for your dog.

The range of natural medicines we offer are some of the safest, most effective naturopathic formulas available for your dog.

The manufacturing processes used by the companies we recommend and use are some of the best in the world. When manufacturing herbal and nutrient supplements, they avoid the use of excess heat, moisture and compaction – which reduces the biological activity of many nutrients and herbs, as seen in other natural products. Unlike many other manufacturers, the companies we use for our natural medicines and supplements do not use the reactive binders, fillers and synthetic additives that are commonly used by other manufacturers and are unsafe. These dangerous additives can cause adverse reactions in dogs and other animals.

Sara Rooney has had many years of clinical experience with the range of formulas she uses and prescribes for dogs and therefore is confident in the positive effects they produce.

What are wellness programs and why are more people choosing these for their pets?

Many people are now opting for natural health care for themselves and therefore more people are seeking this safe and effective form of health care for their pets. Part of naturopathic health care may involve a preventative treatment program in order to avoid disease development rather than waiting for disease to occur and then trying to treat it. Preventing the onset of disease in animals is just as important as preventing disease in humans and if your pets are consuming the right holistic diet and taking some of the best quality nutrient therapies available – they have every chance of living longer and healthier lives. Not only is this ideal for the sake of your pet’s health but it can also be economically better for you as veterinary care for chronic diseases can be very costly.

Can I email Sara questions about my pet’s health problems outside of an online consultation?

We are sorry but we cannot provide advice outside of our online assessments or outside of a pre-scheduled and pre-paid Phone or Skype consultation with Sara. To provide professional health advice, it is a legal and ethical requirement that a proper case history is taken of your dog, prior to providing any treatment advice. This helps ensure that your dog’s health is being taken into consideration in a thorough and comprehensive manner and that appropriate advice is given. This takes time and therefore can only be done via an online, phone or Skype consultation. If you would like to have your question(s) answered about your dogs health you will need to complete and pay for a short consultation

What happens if I want to ask Sara questions about my dog’s health or treatment program by Skype or Phone?

We can organize a Skype or phone booking for you but you will be required to complete and pay for a comprehensive questionnaire Complete Consultation for your pet in the first instance so that Sara has a full health history of your pet before making any recommendations.

After your pet’s initial consultation, if you want to discuss your pet’s health further or ask Sara questions and you do not want to email your questions via our short consultation then a Skype or phone consultation can be arranged for you. Skype and phone consultations need to be booked and pre-paid via Paypal. The charges are as follows:

Skype or Phone Consultations

Skype and phone consultations are charged at $10.00 (Aus) per 5 minutes (e.g. $120.00 per hour). Consultations need to include 5-10 minutes of time spent reviewing your pet’s file prior to your Skype or Phone appointment.

A 5 minute review time is required for simple cases and a 10 minute review time is required for more complex cases. Example: A complex health condition in a dog may require a 10 minute review time prior to your skype or phone appointment and a 30 minute appointment = $80.00 (Aus).

All consultations need to be booked and paid for prior to the appointment.

We require the following information when you are making a Skype or Phone booking:

  • Please provide us with your full name, your email address, mobile phone number and your pet’s name.
  • Let us know your preferences for times/dates for your booking (Please be aware of time differences if you live outside of Australia).
  • Provide an overview of your questions (This will allow us to estimate how much time will be required for your consultation).
  • If making a Skype appointment: Provide us with your Skype name at the time of booking and ensure that Skype is fully functional on your computer and that you have a suitable microphone or headset.

Once we receive the above information, we will send you a Paypal invoice to allow you to pre-pay your consultation. Once we receive payment*, we will then organize your Skype or Phone consultation with Sara.

*Once payment has been received, our office will email you within 2 working days to offer you available appointment times.

BOOKING POLICIES FOR PHONE & SKYPE CONSULTATIONS

  • Phone consultation: If you book a phone consultation rather than a Skype booking, the phone call will need to be made by you and it needs to be made at the correct time of the appointment to ensure our bookings run on time.
  • Cancellation policy: Please give at least 48 hours notice of cancellation or to alter an appointment, or the usual full fee for your session will still need to be charged.
  • Payments for Consultations: Bookings for phone or Skype consultations can only be made once payment has been received and are not refundable.

I have never used Skype before, what do I need to do?

If you are not already registered for Skype, you can register for free at: www.skype.com. You will require a microphone or headset to use Skype. These can be purchased through electrical stores. Many laptops have built-in microphones. Please ensure you complete an audio check (instructions are provided when you sign up for Skype) prior to your Skype consultation with us. Being connected to Skype allows you to speak directly to Sara Rooney about your pet, no matter where you live.

Arrange an online consultation for your pet today so they can begin their journey to a happier, healthier life.

Will I require any tests for my dog?

Not usually. However, if tests are recommended they may include one or more of the following:

Iris Analysis
If you have magnified photos of your pet’s eyes, you can email them to us to be analysed as part of your consultation. The eyes can provide comprehensive information relating to the animal’s state of health.
* If taking your own photos, please avoid flashes or light shining in your pet’s eyes for an extended time.

Hair Analysis
Taking a small sample of your pet’s hair for the assessment of heavy metal toxicity and mineral ratios can be useful when trying to identify certain, underlying health disorders. These tests are non-invasive and can sometimes indicate problems that normal pathology tests may have missed.

Bio-Compatability Testing
Hair samples can also be used to help detect the cause of allergies in dogs. Bio-Compatability testing is about finding foods and products that are affecting your pet’s immune system. These foods and products work collectively and, in order for your dog to achieve optimum health, it may be necessary to remove them. The test results include easy to follow dietary advice for your individual dog. By learning the triggers of your dog’s allergies and ensuring they are no longer exposed to the allergens, can eliminate their symptoms and significantly improve their overall health.

Can I get a diagnosis for my sick dog?

Sorry but if you are seeking a diagnosis you will need to consult a veterinarian. Sara can help you resolve your dog’s health problems by supporting their body to repair itself and by helping to eliminate any distressing symptoms but she cannot provide a diagnosis.

Should I tell my vet that my dog is now having naturopathic treatment?

Absolutely! We need to work together for the best treatment outcome for your pet. We recommend taking your dog to a good vet to gain a diagnosis of the condition before seeking our advice for naturopathic treatment options. Good vets genuinely care about animals and therefore, they should be happy for you to seek professional advice from a well-qualified animal naturopath who has trained for many years in the correct herbal formulations, nutrient supplements and other naturopathic formulas that may help resolve your dogs health problems. Many vets refer their clients to qualified animal naturopaths as they realize that natural medicine is not their area of expertise and they know it takes many years to study the field of animal naturopathy properly.

If your vet is against you seeking naturopathic health advice for your pet, you may want to find a vet who is agreeable to you consulting a qualified animal naturopath. We find that dogs usually benefit much more from having a caring vet who is willing to network with a qualified animal naturopath for the optimum health of dogs. Veterinary care combined with professional naturopathic health care can be a winning formula for your dog.

Achieve Optimum Health & Wellbeing For Your Dog With Natural Animal Health Care
